Unlock the Gates to Charleston’s Haunted Past
Charleston slightly shifts once night settles in. The streets quiet down, the light changes, and the older parts of the city feel different than they do during the day. That feeling follows you to the Visitor Center, where your costumed Ghost Host begins the experience with live narration that sets the night in motion. The stories continue during the ride out to Bethany Cemetery, exclusive to Ghosts & Gravestones, giving the darker side of Charleston time to take shape. Sitting between two rivers gives the city a certain heaviness after dark, a feeling that settles into the stories shared along the way.
Once you enter the cemetery, the lanterns provided give off just enough light to guide the path. Headstones appear slowly from the dark, and the stillness makes every small sound feel a little more important. Some areas feel untouched, and the stories tied to those sections make the space feel a bit more aware of your presence. The walk starts out simple, but each turn brings a hint of tension. Moving deeper into the grounds adds a quiet chill, the kind that makes you check the shadows even when you don’t mean to.
Even after you have safely made it out of the cemetery and back aboard the tour vehicle, your experience isn’t over. Your Ghost Host will guide you through some of Charleston’s more disturbing past, pointing out the locations where ghostly characters have been seen and heard, as they entertain you with tales from the other side of Charleston.
